After a couple of hours of random sewing machine questions, the shocker came. Chad said "if you want a new sewing machine, I think we should go ahead and get it." No way, I thought. I felt a little guilty. We have so many other expenses coming up with the house, I'm not sure a sewing machine is quite necessary right now. I explained this to him, and he pretended to think about it, and saying he understood. Then he revealed the true motivation for the purchase of a sewing machine - our living room needs curtains. He said if getting a sewing machine will get us curtains faster, it's worth it.
So, Thursday night I met my mom at Quilt Beginnings, a small quilting store in Columbus where she bought hers, for me to try out Pfaff machines. My intention was to start there in order to get an idea of what I wanted in features, then I could shop around to other manufacturers. But, I ran into what I think was an incredible deal on a Pfaff that isn't quite as fancy as mom's, but had the features I need. There was only one machine left, and it's now mine (yea!!!):
The reason I love the Pfaff machines so much is they have an extra foot in the back (IDT) that pulls the fabric through the machine evenly from top and bottom. This means that you can go from hemming jeans to sewing the lightest of satin or sheer fabrics with no problem. No other machine has this feature, so I knew I probably would end up back there getting this one.
So this means I will be a much happier (and maybe more talented) sewer for the gazillions of sewing projects I have around here. What's first? The living room curtains, of course.
