First Day With My New Sewing Machine

I finally decided to take a day off from skim coating the ceilings and mudding the walls in the bathroom so that I could finally use my new sewing machine. First project? Living room curtains - the reason Chad encouraged the purchase of the machine. I bought the fabric several weeks ago when JoAnn's was having a 50% off sale on their home decor fabrics, although my eye was on it for several months. Isn't it beautiful (even though the picture doesn't do it the justice it deserves)?

I got off to a slow start today, but I was able to get the fabric cut into 4 panels (2 for each of 2 windows), then I zigzagged the edges. Simple task, but with each panel 9-10 feet long, it took awhile. I also started refreshing my memory how the blind hem feature works on the machine, which is my next step. Each long (vertical) edge will be blind hemmed (like dress pants) first, then I'll finish top, then I'll hem the bottom. The only part I should need help from mom is for the top finish. She did her living room curtains last year, so she will be able help me with the special treatment for the top somewhat quickly, I think.

I'm still learning the details of the machine (I will take a class to help), but so far it is sooooo dreamy. I am certainly not a great sewer, but this guy makes me feel like I can be.
