Fizzled Out

I had good intentions for the long weekend, really I did. Chad has been busy with work, so I thought - what a great opportunity to get some things going around the house. I had quite a to-do list for my three day weekend, but something happened. Finishing my first two weeks of school with a crazy trip to Chicago in between really must have wiped me out. I did OK Saturday, great yesterday, and fizzled out today.

My plan was to take two days to finally stain and protect the shed (the three-weekend project we started last fall), then spend the third day taping and mudding the closets in the master bathroom. I started around lunchtime on Saturday, and was only able to get one side of the shed stained in four hours. What?! Four hours? I was hoping to have all four sides done in four hours. This was a real disappointment.

OK, I thought, I can stain the remaining three sides Sunday, do the second coat on Monday, and the taping and mudding would have to wait until next weekend. Only part of this came true. I did get the three sides stained on Sunday, but I didn't get anything done today. At a minimum, I'm hoping to at least work in the bathroom today and get the smallest amount of wallpaper removed so that I can actually tape and mud next weekend. As for the shed, who knows when it will get its second coat.

If I were to ever shingle a building again, I would think about finding a way to stain the shingles before putting them up. We did consider this, but had no idea where we would ever have space to lay and store them (6 or 7 bundles) during the staining process. I had trouble getting the stain in all of those nooks and crannies between each shingle. Really, I'm just hoping we never have to cross that road again.
