Keeping Sheetrock in Business

This weekend I continued my work on mudding the bathroom closet area. I didn't have any evenings last week to work, so I just finished my second coat yesterday. I can sand next, and then do one more coat. What's taking the longest (and a huge amount of joint compound) is skim-coating the textured ceiling. Ugh. I went through more than one bucket (a large one) of compound yesterday, and that was on one coat only. I would say 2-3 more buckets may finish just the closet and ceiling. I can't even begin to estimate how many buckets I'll use on the entire project. I hope the ceiling ends up coming out OK, especially after the time and energy I'll spend on it.

Meanwhile, Chad picked back up on installing the tankless hot water heater that will supply our new master bathroom. This upcoming weekend Chad's dad is coming to help with the plumbing (thanks, Dad!) - valves for the shower and the final plumbing of the hot water heater. Chad's prep job on the water heater was to rent a core drill to install the vent kit. I think he was kind of nervous about this job (it's needed done for a long time), but it went really well. The tool rental guy at the Home Depot got him all set up with what he needed in order to line up the holes from inside to outside. He started with a long masonry bit that went from the basement to the outside, then he used a 6-inch wood core bit for the inside, lining up the center with the original hole he drilled. He then went outside with a 6-inch masonry core bit, lined up the center holes and drilled. Everything from inside to outside lined up perfectly. Here's Chad doing the outside drilling, and the final hole from the outside:

He also moved the board support for the hot water heater so it's in exactly the right spot to line up with the vent. I hope we're ready for plumbing help next weekend, because then I think we can really move along.
