Shower Tile: Mission Accomplished

On day 5 of the master bathroom shower tiling, we finally finished. Yea!! We spent most of the day yesterday and half of the day today completing the job. We started yesterday by putting up the final wall tiles up to the ceiling. We also had time to tile the top of the corner seat and the bottom of each nook. Today we finished up by tiling the front of the corner seat and the top and sides of the nooks. Take a look - isn't it dreamy?

We had to change our tiling plan a little when we got to the nooks. We had nice curved stone for the outside edges, but it was thicker than the ceramic tile we would use for the sides of the nooks. We just couldn't get the two parts to level out, so we settled for bull nose tiles for the sides with a row of 1" tiles on the far insides.
Chad even had the time to seal the 1" tiles tonight while I got caught up on my grading. Since the 1" tiles on the floor and the back of the nooks are natural stone, they have to be sealed before grouting. This is a separate step from sealing the grout when we are all finished. Apparently, the stone will absorb some of the grout and/or moisture if it isn't sealed prior to grouting.

We know there are some imperfections, but we are hoping that grout will fill in nicely and hide some of the gaps that were made, especially around the nooks. We've done a lot of tile projects, but this was like no other. We learned so much and will be sharing it in our next blog entry.
